January Poll - Which version of Excel do you mostly use?

With the impending launch of Office 2010 this year, I thought it would be interesting to know what versions of Excel readers were currently using.

Please use the poll at the top left of this blog to let me know.

Personally, I have both 2007 and 2003 installed but I still do most of my development work for clients in Microsoft Excel 2003, because of the backwards compatibility issues from Excel 2007. Excel 2007 is much more powerful, particularly with large datasets, but the potential problems if the client is using 2003 are too great to justify changing my default position. I also have many corporate clients who have not made the move up to 2007 for similar reasons.

I also have the Beta version of 2010 but have not had the time to properly play with it yet.

  1. We're currently split between Excel 2007 and 2003, starting to use Excel 2007 more for our base development work with testing on Excel 2003 though still finding some of our users with v2000 running.

Excel 2007 is still fairly new to me though I am pleased so far. Unfortunately when spreadsheets are expected to be shared with others it should at very least be compatible with 2002/2003 so many of the improvements will be irrelevant.

  2. I too run multiple versions of Excel, currently I use 2010 as my main spreadsheet, but I also have a virtual windows xp set up which contains Excel 2002/2003.

I had set up a system on my old desk top running 3.0/4.0/5.0/95/97/2000/2002/2003/2007/2010 beta, along with Open Office/Kcalc/Symphony/Gnumeric/Quattro Pro

Most of my old general purpose sheets where tested on this system, and google spreadsheets!

Now I find in the wild 2002 onwards mostly!
